Slack

Post every submission into a Slack channel the moment it arrives. Connect once, then pick a channel per form.

Before you start

Slack delivery posts every accepted submission into a channel as it arrives. It is included on Pro and Agency. Connecting Slack is done once for the whole workspace, so it needs an owner or admin; after that, anyone who can edit a form can choose its channel.

  1. 1

    Connect Slack

Open the form's Integrations tab and click Connect Slack in the Slack panel. Slack asks you to pick a Slack workspace and approve the app, then sends you back to the same form.

The app asks for three permissions: to post messages, to post in public channels without being invited, and to list public channels so you can pick one. It cannot read your messages.

  2. 2

    Pick a channel

Choose a channel from the list and click Save channel. The list shows public channels only. If you have just created one, click Refresh channel list. There is no need to invite the app to the channel first.

Each form posts to one channel. Your other forms reuse the same connection and pick their own channel, which can be the same one.

  3. 3

    Send a test submission

Submit the form. The message follows shortly: a header with your form's name, the time it was received, then one block per field with the field name in bold above its value. The panel then shows the time of the last delivery.

What gets posted

  • Fields appear in the order they were submitted. Up to 47 are shown; beyond that the message ends with a count of the fields left out, and the full submission is in your dashboard.
  • A very long value is shortened to fit Slack's limit for a single block.
  • Submitted text cannot ping anyone. A visitor typing <!channel> or <!here> into your form shows up as that literal text, not as a mention.
  • Attachments are not posted. Open the submission in the dashboard, or use a webhook, which carries file links.
  • Submissions held for spam review are not posted. See spam filtering.

When delivery fails

Slack being slow or rate limiting us is retried on the same schedule as webhooks, over roughly 15 hours. Some failures are not worth retrying and stop straight away:

  • The channel was archived or deleted. Pick a new channel in the Slack panel.
  • The app was removed from Slack, or its access revoked. This affects every form, since they share one connection.

After 20 failed attempts in a row, the channel or the connection is switched off and the panel says why. For a channel problem, fix it and click Re-enable. For a connection problem, disconnect and connect Slack again from the workspace Integrations page in the sidebar.

Stop posting

To stop one form, click Stop posting in its Slack panel. The connection stays, so other forms carry on.

Disconnecting is workspace-wide. Disconnect on the workspace Integrations page revokes our access with Slack and stops every form in the workspace from posting.
