The integration
These are the settings on the form element itself. With AJAX, Carrd reads the endpoint’s answer: a 2xx shows your success message, anything else shows the failure message.
In Carrd, select the form element and open its settings.
Type Custom › Send to URL
URL https://mtform.co/f/your-form-key
Method AJAX
Format JSON
Carrd treats any 2xx answer as success and shows its own message.
Requires Carrd Pro Plus or higher.Step by step
- 1
Create the endpoint
Create a form in MakeTheForm to get your endpoint URL and inbox.
- 2
Switch the form to Send to URL
Select the form, set Type to Custom, then Send to URL, and paste the endpoint URL.
- 3
Choose AJAX and JSON
Set Method to AJAX so the visitor stays on your page, and Format to JSON. Set each field’s ID to a plain name such as email or message; Carrd uses it to label the value it sends.
- 4
Publish and test
Verify your recipient address once, publish, and submit the live form. It arrives in your inbox and by email.
Common pitfalls
Expecting Send to URL on every plan
Carrd lists Custom URL forms as requiring Pro Plus or higher. On a lower plan the option is not there.
Fix: Upgrade the Carrd site, or use one of Carrd’s built-in form types instead.
Choosing the POST method
POST sends the visitor’s browser to the endpoint, so they leave your Carrd page for a hosted success page instead of seeing your message.
Fix: Use AJAX to stay on the page and show Carrd’s own success message.
Troubleshooting
| Symptom | What’s happening | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| failure message | Carrd got a non-2xx answer. | Check the URL is your exact endpoint. If the form is restricted to allowed domains, add your carrd.co and custom domains. |
| unreadable keys | Fields kept auto-generated IDs. | Give each field a clear ID in its settings and republish. |
Frequently asked questions
How do I send a Carrd form to email?
Use a Custom form set to Send to URL, and point it at a form endpoint that emails you. Choose AJAX and JSON so the visitor stays on the page. Each submission is then emailed to you and stored.
Which Carrd plan do I need for a custom form URL?
Carrd’s documentation lists Send to URL forms as requiring Pro Plus or higher. Check Carrd’s current plans before you build around it.
Can I see Carrd submissions somewhere other than email?
Yes. Every submission sent to MakeTheForm is kept in a searchable inbox you can export, and on a paid plan can also go to Slack or your own webhook.
